log₁₀ 0.0456 = -1.341 → Characteristic = -2 Mantissa = 0.659 (mantissa positive hi rakhte hain)

Example 1: Simplify log₅ 125 + log₅ 25 – log₅ 5
= log₅ (125 × 25 / 5) = log₅ 625 = 4 (kyunki 5⁴ = 625)
Example 2: Find characteristic & mantissa of log₁₀ 0.00789
0.00789 = 7.89 × 10⁻³
log = log 7.89 + log 10⁻³ ≈ 0.897 – 3
Characteristic = -3 Mantissa = 0.897
